Analysis
Background and Discussion
The board of directors of the California Association of Local Agency Formation Commissions (CALAFCO) is comprised of representatives from each of the four regions: Northern, Central, Coastal, and Southern. Each region has four members, representing county, city, district, and public. The term of each board member is two years.
The positions of City Member and Public Member for the Coastal Region are open, and the CALAFCO Election Committee has notified LAFCO staffs that it is now accepting nominations for these positions. Any Commissioner or Alternate Commissioner is eligible for a Board seat.
A candidate must be nominated by his or her Commission. The deadline for submittal of nominations is September 30, 2019. The election will be conducted during the Coastal Regional Caucus at the CALAFCO Annual Conference in Sacramento on October 31, 2019. Candidates have the opportunity to speak to Commissioners of their Region at the Caucus, just prior to the election.
Recommendation
Staff is providing this information to the Commission, should the Commission wish to nominate one of its members. As indicated above, the deadline for submittal of applications is September 30 deadline.
