Notice of Public Hearing: File No. 2026-01: Sonoma County Fire District and Rancho Adobe Fire Protection District Reorganization

Published: January 13, 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN by the Sonoma Local Agency Formation Commission that the Commission will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at or after 2:00 p.m., in the Sonoma County Administration Building, 575 Administration Drive, Room 102A, Santa Rosa, California.

The purpose of the hearing is for the Commission to consider a proposal to reorganize three fire and emergency service agencies:

File No. 2026-01: Sonoma County Fire District Reorganization No. 2026-01 (Rancho Adobe FPD, County Service Area 40 – Fire Services) Involving Dissolution of the Rancho Adobe Fire Protection District, Detachment of portions of County Service Area No. 40 - Fire Services, and Annexation of Those Same Territories to the Sonoma County Fire District

The proposal was initiated by resolution of the board of directors of the Sonoma County Fire District.

The affected territory includes all territory within the Rancho Adobe Fire Protection District, including the City of Cotati, the community of Penngrove, and other surrounding unincorporated areas. The affected territory also includes portions of the remainder of County Service Area 40 – Fire Services including Incident Response Areas generally located north and northwest of the community of Forestville. A map of the affected territory is available on the Sonoma LAFCO website.

The reason for the reorganization is to achieve greater economy and efficiency in providing fire protection and emergency medical services for the residents of and visitors to the affected territories.

Owners of property within the Rancho Adobe FPD territory annexed to the District would continue to be subject to parcel taxes currently authorized. Owners of property within County Service Area 40 would be subject to parcel taxes authorized in the Sonoma County Fire District. For further information or questions about specific parcels or parcel tax rates, please contact the Sonoma County Fire District, at (707) 838-1170.

Copies of all related documents are on file and may be reviewed at the office of the Sonoma Local Agency Formation Commission. For questions, call Sonoma LAFCO: (707) 565-2577.
