File No. 2026-01: Sonoma County Fire District Reorganization No. 2026-01 Involving Dissolution of the Rancho Adobe Fire Protection District
Sonoma County Fire/Rancho Adobe/CSA 40 Reorganization
Sonoma LAFCO has received a proposal to reorganize three fire and emergency medical service agencies, and will consider the application at its March 4, 2026 meeting.
The Sonoma County Fire District is proposing that the Rancho Adobe Fire Protection District, serving the City of Cotati, the unincorporated town of Penngrove, and additional unincorporated territory be dissolved and subsequently annexed to Sonoma County Fire.
The proposal also includes the detachment of Incident Response Plan areas north of the unincorporated town of Forestville from County Service Area 40 – Fire Services, and subsequent annexation of those territories to Sonoma County Fire.
The proposal has special tax implications for property owners within the affected territories. Sonoma County Fire proposes that existing special tax rates for property owners within Rancho Adobe FPD territory be continued. The District proposes to impose its own special tax rates for property owners within County Service Area 40 territory.
If the Commission approves the proposal, it will conduct a proceeding allowing registered voters and landowners to protest the approval.
