      Senate Bill 777 (Richardson) Abandoned Cemeteries – Report
      This bill has been significantly amended, now directing the Cemetery and Funeral Bureau (a department within the State’s Department of Consumer Affairs) to convene a workgroup by March 2026 to discuss the possibility of requiring counties to assume responsibility for maintenance, irrigation, public works, and burial services for abandoned cemeteries. It is anticipated that LAFCOs would be represented in the workgroup by CALAFCO designees.

      Bill Seeking CALAFCO Sponsorship: LAFCO Authority to Direct Annexations to Address Water and Wastewater Deficiencies

      An environmental rights non-governmental agency continues to seek sponsorship of legislation to amend Sections 56375 and 56430 of the Government Code (CKH) that would grant LAFCOs the authority to initiate annexations to cities and special districts for the purposes of addressing water and wastewater service deficiencies.
